DUSSELDORF, Germany, June 21, 2019—Russian men’s epee and women’s foil teams took double gold at the 2019 Dusseldorf European Fencing Championships. This was the fifth of six days of individual and team competition, with 28 European teams participating in the day’s events.
In men’s team epee, Russia faced Denmark in the final match, winning gold by a single touch, 31-30. Denmark defeated Estonia in the semifinal round, 40-32, and Russia narrowly defeated Hungary, 24-23. For the bronze medal, victory went to Hungary over Estonia, 36-25.
The Russian women’s foil team took the gold medal against France, 45-32, in the final match. France overcame Germany in the semifinal, 45-28, while Russia won against Italy, 44-32. The bronze medal was taken by Italy over Germany, 45-36.
Final ranking for men’s team epee at the 2019 European Fencing Championships included Russia (gold), Denmark (silver), Hungary (bronze), Estonia, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Poland.
In women’s team foil, final ranking included Russia (gold), France (silver), Italy (bronze), Germany, Hungary, Poland, Spain and Ukraine.
