BANGKOK, Thailand, June 22, 2018—Chinese men’s sabre and women’s epee teams took both gold medals on the final night of the Asia-Oceania Fencing Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. Thirty-three teams participated in the day’s competitions. This was the sixth day of 12 individual and team events hosted on the Rangsit Campus of Bangkok’s Thammasat University. Korea topped the gold medal count for the entire Championships, taking five in all.
In men’s team sabre, China faced Iran in the final match, defeating them 45-41. Iran beat Japan in the semi-final round, 45-26, and China had a close match against Korea, 45-43. Korea took the bronze medal against Japan, 45-31.
In women’s team epee, it was another tight result with China topping Hong Kong in the final round, 35-34. Hong Kong beat Korea in the semi-final, 45-40, and China overcame Japan, 45-15. Korea took the bronze against Japan, 45-33.
The overall top-eight rankings for men’s team sabre at the Bangkok Asia-Oceania Zonal Fencing Championships included China (gold), Iran (silver), Korea (bronze), Japan, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and Singapore.
The top-eight rankings for women’s team epee included China (gold), Hong Kong (silver), Korea (bronze), Japan, Kazakhstan, Singapore, India and Iran.
