VERONA, Italy, April 1, 2018—The first day of competition at the 2018 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships in Verona, Italy, featured men’s and women’s individual junior epee.
In the junior men’s epee event, France’s Luidgi Midelton took the gold medal against Italian epeeist Davide Di Veroli, 14-13. Midelton beat his teammate, Lilian Nguefack, in the semi-final, 15-11. Di Veroli defeated Hungarian Tamas Mate Koch in the other semi-final, 15-5.
In junior women’s epee, Anastasia Soldatova of Russia took the gold medal against Poland’s Julia Falinska, 15-11. Falinska beat Hungarian Emma Borsody in the semi-final, 15-14, while Soldatova took out Hungarian Kinga Nagy in the other semi-final match, 15-13.
The top eight in men’s junior epee include Luidgi Midelton (FRA, gold), Davide Di Veroli (ITA, silver), Tamas Mate Koch (HUN, bronze), Lilian Nguefack (FRA, bronze), Ivan Limarev (RUS), Yerlik Sertay (KAZ), Neisser Loyola (BEL), and Wojciech Lubieniecki (POL).
The top eight in women’s junior epee include Anastasia Soldatova (RUS, gold), Julia Falinska (POL, silver), Emma Borsody (HUN, bronze), Kinga Nagy (HUN, bronze), Bianca Benea (ROU), Yuexin Shi (CHN), Zsuzsa Schlier (ROU), and Dar Hecht (ISR).
