With deepest regrets, the FIE is saddened to report the passing of Tunisia’s Noureddine Robbana on March 20. Mr. Robbana, born on February 9, 1949, had a long and distinguished career in world fencing. Most recently, at the 2016 Electoral Congress he was voted as a member of the FIE Promotion, Communication and Marketing Commission. He had many other notable achievements and appointments in fencing throughout his life:
- He fenced on the Tunisian national epee team from 1960 to 1969
- From 2012 to 2016, he was a member of the FIE Legal Commission
- As a member of the Tunisian Fencing Federation, he was treasurer from 2002 to 2006; a member of the Federal Bureau from 2006 to 2012; president from 2012 to 2016; and a member of the Tunisian Federation’s Executive Committee since 2016
- He served as treasurer for the Mediterranean Fencing Confederation from 2012 to 2016.
‘The FIE has lost a committed and dynamic member, and a faithful friend totally devoted to the cause of fencing’, said FIE President Alisher Usmanov.
On behalf of the world fencing community, the FIE offers sincerest condolences and deepest sympathy during this difficult period to Mr. Robanna’s family and friends, and to the Tunisian Fencing Federation.
