KATHMANDU, Nepal, January, 2018—The third-annual Nepal National Fencing Championships have completed in Kathmandu, part of the selection process for the 18th Asian Games (2018) and 13th South Asian Games (2019). Four regional teams and 96 individual fencers participated in the event, which took place from January 4-6.
Mr. Rajan Raj Khadka from the Nepal Army took the gold medal in the men’s individual foil event, with Ms. Sunita Budhathoki, also from the Nepal Army, taking gold in women’s foil. For epee, Mr. Janga Giri of the Nepal Armed Police Force team (APF) won the men’s event, with Ms. Anita Karki, also of APF, taking the women’s gold. In sabre, Mr. Amit Bhandari of the Central Zone team and Ms. Kamal Shrestha of the Nepal Army took respective gold medals.
For the team events, the Nepal Army took gold in both men’s and women’s foil. In team epee, APF won the men’s title, and the Nepal Army took gold for the women. The Central Zone team won in men’s sabre, and the Nepal Army won the women’s team gold medal.
Mr. Keshab Kumar Bista, member secretary of the Nepal National Sports Council, inaugurated the Championships, with several officials and members of the Nepal Olympic Committee attending. Nepal National Sports Council vice president and Nepal Olympic Committee secretary general, Mr. Lama Tendi Sherpa, distributed medals alongside members of the Nepal Fencing Association.
