LAUSANNE, Switz., October 7, 2017—Olympic gold medallist Aldo Montano (ITA) is the newly elected president of the Athletes’ Commission of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). Mr. Montano becomes a member of the FIE Executive Committee, which will meet on November 24.
The Commission, which comprises elite fencers from around the world and gives a voice to athletes in the proceedings and decisions of the FIE, met on October 7 in Lausanne, Switzerland to elect a President and hold its first meeting with its new members to prepare a working calendar.
This past July, the athletes participating in the Fencing World Championships in Leipzig, Germany elected six (non-weapon specific) athletes. Additionally, the FIE Executive Committee nominated six fencers, nominated by their respective member federations, at its September meeting, making a total of 12 members.
Commission members will serve for a four-year term. Members of the Commission include the following fencers:
