RIO DE JANEIRO (August 9) – Hungarian President János Áder was the guest of honour on Tuesday at the Carioca Arena 3, the latest in a long line of VIPs to visit the Olympic fencing competition.
Taking his seat in the VIP tribune, President Áder followed the performances of his country’s fencers Geza Imre, Gabor Boczko and Andras Redli. He then met with International Fencing Federation General Secretary Frédéric Pietruszka, Secretary Treasurer Jacek Bierkowski and Sport Director Krsiztian Kulcsar in the Olympic Lounge.
Hungary has a rich fencing history and trails only Italy and France in the total number of Olympic fencing medals won in the modern era.
Other high-profile guests to have visited the Olympic fencing competition at the Carioca Arena 3 are Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, His Royal Highness Albert II, Prince of Monaco, His Excellency Sheikh Saoud Al Thani of Qatar, and American sprinting legend Michael Johnson.
Olympic fencing runs August 6-14.
