Leicester Fencing Club will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the highest number of participants in a team fencing competition on Sunday 14th August. They are looking for willing volunteers to assist them in breaking the current record of 50 participants.
The club is targeting a new world record of 72 fencers of any sword type and want to hear from anyone that wants to get involved, whether as a fencer, time-keeper, coach, referee or supporter.
British Fencing’s Official Equipment provider, Leon Paul, are supplying pistes and scoring equipment, Curve Theatre has donated its facilities as host venue and both Leicester City Council and the Cities Mayor’s Office have thrown their backing behind the attempt. Despite this the club is looking at running cost of about £2,000.
The club is looking to use this record attempt not only to raise awareness of themselves and fencing in general but also to raise money for local charities. All fencers involved will be given sponsorship forms to collect money themselves and the club has set up a crowd funding page via Just Giving where you can donate money to the attempt. < See more >
