LAUSANNE (May 11) - The World Cup circuit resumes this weekend after a six-week break with events in Russia, Spain and China, giving fencers who have qualified for the Olympics the chance to improve their world rankings and therefore seeding for the Games.
The Russian Fencing Federation, in cooperation with the FIE, is organizing the foil Men’s World Cup, individual and team events, in St. Petersburg. With 86 days remaining before the Olympic Games in Rio 2016, 132 foil fencers are competing. The competition will take place at Zimniy Stadium.
In China, meanwhile, the national federation welcomes 120 fencers to Foshan to participate in the Women’s Sabre World Cup, individual and teams events. The competition venue will be Lingnan Pearl Gymnasium, Lingnan North Road n.79, Chancheng District in Foshan city.
For the men’s sabre, meanwhile, fencers will gather in the Spanish capital at the Pabellon Multiusos, Club de Campo ‘Villa de Madrid’. The event will feature 186 of the top athletes, including the World and Olympic Champions, competing in both individual and team events.
