RIO2016 FAIR PLAY AWARDS – LAUNCH

The International Fair Play Committee (CIFP) announces its launch of the “Rio2016 Fair Play Awards”. In partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), CIFP’s Games-related award will make extensive use of social media and for the first time ever will be open to submissions from the public world-wide. Eligible nominations can be submitted via its website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat accounts. Eligible nominations include all “fair play”/“sportsmanship” acts at Olympic qualifying events – from national to continental - as well as those occurring at the Rio Games themselves.

Fair Play honors all that is right in sport. It celebrates the finest in human spirit. It is an unselfish act exemplified by athletes, coaches, fans and followers.

A jury composed of representatives of CIFP, IOC, athletes and the media will make the final decision during the Rio Games culminating in a ceremony to be held at The Olympic Club.

“There is no sport without “fair play”, says CIFP President Dr Jeno Kamuti, himself a previous award-winner. “We are proud to endorse the Olympic Movement Code and are extremely pleased with the co-operation of the IOC on similar matters related to fair play. I encourage all members of the Olympic Movement, ANOC, SportAccord, the IF’s, NOC’s, judges, athletes, coaches, media and others to raise the awareness of these incredible acts by engaging in this effort actively.”

“Sport has the unique power to bring people together from all cultures and backgrounds,” says IOC President Thomas Bach. “Sport teaches us to practice the values of respect and fair play in all our activities. This is why the IOC wholeheartedly supports this initiative because it spreads these Olympic Values to the world.”

Sunil Sabharwal, CIFP Secretary General adds, “ it is a real honor for us to be integrated with the vision of President Bach who himself was involved with the fair play movement in his career. We welcome the opportunity to have the celebration at The Olympic Cub after appearances at USA House and the German House at previous Games - for which we remain ever grateful to the respective NOC’s.”
