The IOC presented the 2015 Women & Sport Trophies last night at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, in the presence of IOC President Thomas Bach. One of these winners include Ms Mervat Hassan with 40 years of experience in fencing.
Five continental and one world trophies are awarded every year. This year, the trophies went to:
- World Winner: National Olympic Committee of New Zealand – The NZOC has been at the forefront of championing change to ensure that women have a prominent role in sport, on and off the field of play. Particular attention has been paid to increasing the number of women representing New Zealand at the Olympic Games and in decision-making and leadership positions not only within the NOC, but also in other sports organisations in the country.
- Winner for Africa: Ms Mervat Hassan (Egypt) – 40 years’ experience in fencing, member of the Supreme Committee for activating women’s sports in Egypt, reporter of the Egyptian Union of Radio and Television and Satellite TV
- Winner for the Americas: Ms Sara Rosario (Puerto Rico) – Chef the Mission for the Puerto Rican team at five Olympic Games, President of the Puerto Rico NOC.
- Winner for Asia: Shaika Hayat Bint Abdulaziz Al-Khalifa (Bahrain) – Table Tennis and volleyball player, Vice President of the Arab Table Tennis Federation, President of the Bahrain Table Tennis Association and board member of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
- Winner for Europe: Ms Stavroula Kozompoli (Greece) – 2004 Athens Silver medallist in Water Polo, President of the Greek Olympic Winners Association.
- Winner for Oceania: Ms Cathy Freeman (Australia) – 1996 Silver medalist and 2000 Olympic Champion in 400m, founder of the Cathy Freeman Foundation (CFF).
