CAIRO, Egypt, April 8, 2021—On the sixth day of the Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships, Russian men and women won both junior team foil events. Twenty-two men’s and 18 women’s international teams participated in the day’s events.
In junior men’s team foil, Russia defeated USA in the gold-medal final, 45-35. USA beat Poland in the semifinal, 45-31, while Russia won against France, 45-28. The bronze medal went to France over Poland, 45-40.
“Winning the World Championships is a feeling of happiness and joy”, said Russian junior men’s team member Egor Barannikov. “To win, we needed a lot of training and of course a lot of concentration for the tournament. We want everyone to stay healthy in these hard times and take care of themselves, but at the same time be joyful as we are.”
In junior women’s team foil, Russia beat USA for the gold, 45-43. USA won against Romania in the semifinal, 45-41, and Russia defeated Ukraine, 45-37. Ukraine took the bronze medal against Romania, 45-29.
“I still haven’t realized that I became world champion now”, said Russian junior women’s team member Vitalina Anaschenkova. “We had to put a lot of work of it and years of training to achieve this result. I love my country and I am very proud.”
Final rankings for men’s junior team foil included Russia (gold), USA, France, Poland, Korea, Chile, Mexico and Ukraine.

In all, 18 individual and team fencing events in three weapons are taking place over nine days at the Indoor Halls Complex of the Cairo International Stadium in Nasr City.
