EFC’s First Ever Foil Referee Seminars Conclude
Today, the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) concluded its first set of online foil referee seminars following on from the successful sabre seminars earlier this year.
Over 30 referee delegates received advice from mentors Martina Ganassin, Florin Gheorghe, and Vilem Madr over the course of six seminars which covered 14 hours of learning in the space of just two weeks.
Whilst events are cancelled for the foreseeable future these seminars illustrate how the EFC is utilizing the “downtime” to best prepare new referees for when competitive fencing resumes.
During the seminars the delegates were taken through a theoretical quiz before discussing videos of actions from the most recent international tournaments including the World Championships in Budapest last season.
Opening tonight’s session, the EFC’s Vice-President Nikolay Mateev said, “Remember that we are here to help you with our very experienced mentors. They are here to help you progress and ultimately pass your FIE exams.” He continued by asking for feedback to assist with developing further online education in this area.
Whilst the foil seminars may be over for this year, the EFC will continue to break new ground before we bring in the New Year. Three consecutive days of online referee training will begin on Sunday dedicated to a cohort of trainee female sabre referees.
